The new trailer for HBO’s upcoming Lanterns dropped today and DC nerds finally got a better look at the galaxy's most coveted piece of bling, impending doom - oh and Hal Jordan saying "fuck"!
After watching this about three times now, I must admit my hope for this show aren't quite Seth Rogen high, but slowly elevating. So far Lanterns shows some pretty solid-looking CGI that honestly looks better than a lotta people expected. Sure the visuals aren't perfecto, but they definitely got that grounded sci-fi detective vibe James Gunn’s new DCU soft reboot is aiming for.
We also got a fun little peek at Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner, Earth's current official Green Lantern and a dude that definitely looks like he's been forcibly removed space Applebee’s.
Unlike Guy, that has a closer to comic accurate suit, I don't think there anyone high or sober that is feelin' the odd partly khaki Green Lantern uniform they unblessed Hal Jordan with. I get the grounded approach, but that fit is giving intergalactic park ranger than cosmic space cops.

The series stars Aaron Pierre (Krypton) as John Stewart and Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights) as Hal Jordan, alongside Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner and Ulrich Thomsen as Green Lantern turned Yellow, Sinestro.
Lanterns follows Hal Jordan and John Stewart investigating a murder that slowly unravels into something much bigger and connected to the wider DC Universe. The series is one of the major pillars of James Gunn’s new DCU going forward, so expect nothing less than earthshaking. It also seem like Hal is testing John to be the successor to his ring. While I'm sure most of us are fine with a classic past the torch B-story, but it would be nothing short of mad cool to see all three lanterns suited up and running collective fades - ya know if DCs got the CGI coins for it.
Lanterns lands August 16, 2026, HBO Max or Crave if you're a maple syrup sucker.

Has the cursing and fancy ring tricks convinced you to move past your justifiable feelings about the uniforms and give Lanterns a solid go?
