No more midnight GameStop pickups y'all. No more fresh disc smell or spotting your homie a game he'll "totally give back next week brah." Sony has officially announced that starting in 2028, every new PlayStation game will be digital only.
Sony says most players (like me) already buy their games digitally, so this is just the natural next step in evolution. But for die-hard collectors? Achievement Unlocked: Existential Crisis.
Physical discs have been part of gaming culture for decades. They filled our shelves, survived three console generations, and gave us something to angrily snap in half after rage-quitting (don't act like you never thought about it dawg).
While the move could streamline releases and increase convenience, many fans are shook about losing the ability to lend, resell, or truly own their games.

The move also raises some big questions. What happens to long-term impact on game preservation? Will digital prices ever ACTUALLY go down? And if you can't resell a game, do you really own it... or are you just renting it with extra steps? Many are also accusing Sony of some sort of weird control tactics? Only Kratos knows for sure.
Whether you're Team Digital or Team "I Like Actually Owning My Shit," one thing is without question...
The PlayStation game disc is about to go the way of memory cards, wired controllers, and blowing into cartridges - meaning we will proabably stop moanin' about it in a year or so.
Geek My Interest Question of the Day:
💿 Are you ready to go all digital, or are you holding onto physical games until the credits roll?
