Fresh off the divisive finale of ‘The Boys’ Amazon Prime just dropped the first official trailer for ‘Vought Rising’ and it looks exactly how you’d want a prequel to The Boys to look: bloody, horny, violently unhinged, and packed with more HR violations than a Love Island cast party.
Set in the 1950s, the Vought Rising digs into the super sus origins of Vought and the early days of Compound V, wrapped inside what creator Eric Kripke is calling a “twisted murder mystery”. The show will focus on the fledgling exploits of ol’ honey tongue devil Soldier Boy, played once again by Jensen Ackles, decades before ceaseless trauma turned him into TV’s best-loved radioactive, moderately racist super-grandpa.
Alongside Ackles is everyone’s favorite fascist fräulein, Clara Vought aka Liberty, played by Aya Cash, long before she became the ill-fated human s’more Stormfront. The trailer leans hard into propaganda imagery, shady ass experiments, retro Americana, and enough blood spray to irrigate a small farm.
The cast also includes Mason Dye, reprising his role as Bombsight, Elizabeth Posey as Private Angel, and Will Hochman as Torpedo, with additional appearances from KiKi Layne and Brian J. Smith. Ethan Slater is also confirmed to be back as Thomas Godolkin, first seen in season two of the recently axed spin off Gen V. The whole shusha looks like if old-school noir detective stories got shitfaced, snorted Compound V, and started hooking up backstage at a Turning Point USA rally.
Beyond burners and and blood stains. The trailer also serves us a scene where Vought scientist are testing early Compond V on black "volunteers" in a secret lab. Hopefully this is a nod to Truth: Red, White & Black, a beautifuly written, but pretty fucked 2003 Captain America story that gave us Isaiah Bradley, the "first" Captain America.
No official release date yet beyond a 2027 window, but based on this first trailer? Vought is about to make America deeply uncomfortable all over again. And my fellow degens can’t wait Kripke, can’t fuckin wait!
Y'all think Vought Rising can end up being the band-aid needed to heal us from the loss of The Boys that Gen V wasn't?
