China Unveils New Mech Suit And It's For Sale!

Yup, China is really out here selling baby Gundams and advancing humanity into the imminent sci-fi future we lowkey all crave.

Chinese robotics company Unitree Robotics just unveiled the GD01 — a massive pilotable mech suit that looks straight outta Pacific Rim or Mobile Suit Gundam, minus the shiny CGI magic of course - And the wild part? It’s apparently for sale.

The GD01 stands around 9–12 feet tall depending on the report, weighs roughly 500kg, give or take the pilot inside, and comes with a cockpit built right into the chest. The starting price? So glad you asked, about $650,000 USD (roughly 3.9 million yuan). So yeah… rich nerds and tech billionaires are about to leap feet first into that anime villains arc.

What makes the GD01 furtherly bonkers is the way it transforms. The mech can walk upright on two legs like a traditional humanoid robot, then bend backward and drop into a four-legged “beast mode” that moves like Ravage (G1) from Transformers. Unitree claims the quadruped mode gives it more stability and mobility, especially for rough terrain and heavier movement.

In demo footage, the GD01 is seen Hulking through cinderblock walls, crab-walking across the ground, and stomps around like somebody accidentally unlocked the Terminator ending for humanity. Some clips even show it operating without a human pilot inside, hinting at semi-autonomous functions too - But we're sure that's nothing to be worried about...

Unitree is calling it:

“ The world’s first production-ready manned mecha,”

While simultaneously asking people not to weaponize it… which is exactly the kinda of shit a large number of humans are probably itching to do. Not me though... other people...

Fingers crossed the moderately hefty price tag will prevent the GD01 for being used as the coolest way to rob a bank ever - Because rich people NEVER do crazy shit right?
